I enjoy social eating and don't want to track all my food - Will this still work?

The answer is YES.

Restricting yourself and cutting off multiple food groups can lead to a very unhealthy relationship with food AND is just not sustainable for the long run. 

Like I said, your health and fitness should be adding to your life, not take away from it. Your dietician is not only there to calculate your macros and creating a meal plan. But they are also there to teach you tips and tricks on how to portion your meals appropriately or how to incorporate that guilty pleasure every now and then.
